OK so we adopted a pure breed boxer female named AJ on Dec.28,2009 (they said she is 5 months but we all think she is a year) and we brought her home and she had diarrhea but I just thought it was because she was nervous about being at a new place well today when I have been around her when she goes to the bathroom she always has diarrhea and I don't know what to do if its just nervous still.

Boxer puppy always has diarrhea. Coccidia, which also causes diarrhea in dogs, is a different parasite and has a different treatment than giardia.Canines can contract this parasite via contact with infected feces, or sometimes from their mother. That doesn't mean the breeder or shelter wasn't clean, just that coccidia is a sneaky and resilient parasite. Puppy diarrhea is one of the most common puppy health issues. It can be caused by something simple, and resolve by itself, or be the first sign of serious illness. Veterinary approved information on the causes, types and treatment of diarrhea in puppies. There's an important distinction between adult dogs and puppies where vomiting is concerned. Mild vomiting in an adult dog may warrant a wait-and-see approach, but vomiting in a very young dog is always potentially serious because puppies may quickly become dehydrated and lose critical electrolytes. Don't wait too long to take a vomiting puppy to the vet. Kaopectate - You'll want to double check with your veterinarian, however this works well for many Boxer dogs, with a dosage of 1 tablespoon (for adults), 2 times per day. This is for short term use, during times that bowels really need to be tightened up (high diarrhea days).

If your dog has chicken allergies, you should replace the protein with a hypoallergenic option. If the diarrhea continues for more than 24 hours or your dog’s condition worsens at any time, call your vet immediately. At-Home Treatment for Acute Diarrhea With Vomiting in Dogs. For dogs with diarrhea who have vomited only once or twice: My boxer puppy al is 8 weeks old, about a week ago she was fine. She is not throwing up, and she is still eating and drinking TONS. I switched her dog food from iiams to Nutro. I did not "gradually" switch her food, which from reading online i should have. Is this why she has diarrhea? I switched her food 4 days ago. My question is.. since its already been 4 days do i just let her stick it out. If your puppy is experiencing loose or soft stools rather than actual diarrhea, your vet might recommend adding rice to his diet or feeding him a bland diet of rice and hamburger until his feces firm up. Tell your vet exactly what your puppy has been eating -- including treats and table scraps. To start with, one way to classify diarrhea is as either small bowel or large bowel diarrhea: With small bowel diarrhea you are more likely to see large volumes or watery diarrhea which can quickly lead to significant dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. Large bowel diarrheas involve the lower bowel or colon.

Typically, puppy diarrhea should be over within 1 or 2 days. However, if the diarrhea continues beyond a couple of days, the puppy becomes lethargic or starts to vomit, or you see blood in the stool, then the advice always is: speak to a veterinarian for advice. Other causes of puppy diarrhea But, the vegetarian option is worth researching fully. However, if a puppy is sick, it is likely from something they ate–or heat stroke. So, nourishing food, like boiled chicken, would be my first suggestion. And plenty of water. And, I ALWAYS call my vet and ask to speak to a vet tech. We have pet insurance, with a $500 deductible. Diarrhea can point to conditions that could kill your puppy. Don’t wait—the resulting dehydration can make puppies even sicker. There are certain signs of diarrhea that require an immediate veterinarian, like waste looking black with a tar-like consistency, smelling extremely foul, containing large amounts of red blood, or being accompanied by symptoms like vomiting, severe abdominal pain. If a puppy has diarrhea, then they are particularly vulnerable. However, it is important not to confuse puppy diarrhea with normal loose stools of a weaned puppy. If they have consistent diarrhea, then this may be a cause for concern, but look to other symptoms.

Beneficial Bacteria and Puppy Diarrhea Yogurt has beneficial bacteria that can help restore balance in your dog’s belly and firm up stools. Depending on their size, try giving dogs a small container (6 oz) of plain yogurt daily. Some dogs may not like the taste or texture of yogurt, but you can try mixing in dried food or natural treats to. Without good bacteria, your dog will likely experience abdominal pain and other stomach issues. If your dog has recently been put on antibiotics, their diarrhea may be linked to the new medication. Always follow the advice of your vet - many times, the medication should be given with food. Re: Lou always gets diarrhea when excited (on walks, running I don't know why, but Lydie (2 1/2) does the same thing- She is definetly not dehydrated and here in Maine its not that hot-When ever we go on Hikes or long car rides she has the same thing happen-twice there was even blood in her stool-Otherwise she is healthy and has plenty of energy-I know others on this sight have suggested. I have one rescue that had irritable bowl and has to be on prescription food for sensitive stomachs (Hill's Science Diet I/D). if you're still worried I would go back to your vet. The most important thing you need to do is keep the dog hydrated as diarrhea can quickly dehydrate a puppy.
